Whitewater Backing up Plain Files?

Hello,

Good questions.
The Issue is that Whitewater is a cloud-backup solution, not a cloud-file system solution.

Yes you can do the file-copy you want but use the NFS/CIFS share to keep accessing the files.

Whitewater Backing up Plain Files?

Hi,

Couldn't find this mentioned in the documentation. I need to know whether the Whitewater appliance supports backup of plain files, i.e. when just copying a file to the NFS/CIFS share, does it get replicated to the cloud as well? And in reverse, when copying that file back from the share, is it (transparently) retrieved from the cloud if it's not in the local cache anymore?

Furthermore is there any particular limitations to using an arbitrary backup solution capable of writing to an NFS / CIFS share, other than that they haven't been compatibility tested by Riverbed and are thus not officially supported?

Many thanks

-stefan
