NetApp SnapMirror Performance?

Well From version 3.x, we went from 39(see attached) to to 86 percent bandwidth reduction. However, I do remember that our 2.x performance was in high 70's.

NetApp SnapMirror Performance?

Great results Henry. Did you compare to how the results looked prior to RiOS 4.1? It would be interesting to see the impact that RiOS 4.1 had as far as an increase in effective data reduction % as well as increased throughput for SnapMirror operations. I have heard from customers that the gain ranges from 30% to 50% over pre- RiOS 4.1.

Cheers,

Bob

Bob,

Since we upgraded to 4.1 we are seeing the same results that you encountered to our DR site (see attachment).

NetApp SnapMirror Performance?

[ Edited ]
Attached is Riverbed's performance brief covering SnapMirror. The test summary is:

- Steelhead appliances improve the performance of SnapMirror up to 45x
- Incremental updates are 8x faster
- Bandwidth utilization is reduced by up to 89%

Does anyone have any SnapMirror performance results or any feedback to share?

NetApp SnapMirror Performance?

[ Edited ]
Every night we replicate two volumes simulateneously. These are the numbers from last night: The first took 2h24m to replicate 4.46GB, and the other took 3h0m for 4.78GB. This is on a T1 with 768CIR with other traffic. So, we pushed over 9GB of Snapmirror traffic through that T1 in three hours with little impact to other traffic.

This can be done with SH 100, since Snapmirror only uses 1 TCP connection for each session. We are doing it with 200s so that we can optimize the other traffic on that same T1. Anyway, it's a no-brainer. Get some steelheads if you're using Snapmirror across a WAN. cool.gif

NetApp SnapMirror Performance?

Hi Bob,
We have had good success with Snapmirror over T3 and 70ms RT latency. We get about 95-99% data reduction with warm data and the effective throughput goes from 10-25mb/s to about 70-90mb/s for a snapmirror real time.

NetApp SnapMirror Performance?

Does anyone have experience with how your WDS product improved NetApp SnapMirror over your WAN? Please provide what the dataset size is, the WAN pipe, RTT latency, how long the operation took without and with the WDS product. Oh, and please share what the WDS product is!
