JInitiator optimization

Hi Bob,

Appreciate your answer. We are currently looking into this, however we have asked Oracle and they told us the following regarding socket mode:

QUESTION
========
Is it possible to use Socket Mode in Web Forms 10.1.2.0.2 instead of HTTP Mode?

ANSWER
======
No. This feature is deprecated from Web Forms. The main reason for using only HTTP mode in Web Forms is that Forms is a component of Application Server and it must conform to "The Standard Web Technology" model, and socket mode does not fit to these standards.

An Enhancement Request is filed for this issue but it is rejected by development for the same reason.
Enhancement Request 5909669 - "SOCKET MODE CAPABILITY FOR FORMS 10G

Now we run Web Forms 10.1.2.0.2 and I am in doubt wether this answer is right or not. Will Riverbed also support the HTTP Native mode in a future release? This could be crucial as we run the Steelhead trial right now especially for Oracle Webforms.

JInitiator optimization

Hi Silvan,

RiOS 4.1 optimizes Oracle J-Initiator traffic in socket mode. HTTP mode also scrambles traffic and Steelhead's optimizer does not currently have intelligence to decrypt this type of traffic. Is it possible to change that application's configuration to use socket mode?

JInitiator optimization

We are currently evaluating Riverbed, and in particular Oracle JInitiator based applications. We have enabled JInitiator optimization, and we created a rule for the specific port numbers. However, we don't really see too much data being optimized so we have a hard feeling on true optimization of JInitiator traffic which in our particular case is considered pretty 'chatty'.

We are running JInitiator over HTTP, the java console shows the connection as 'HTTP, Native'.

When we try another application, that seems to run socket mode, we get much more data reduction so it feels we have much better optimization.

Any special rule tricks we need to apply for Oracle JInitiator over HTTP?? Any other experiences with JInitiator acceleration?

Regards,
Silvan
