Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot.

I can now test this connections in a downtime window.

Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

You will have a speed and duplex mismatch between the lan switch and IPS. It may or may not work. All four interfaces should agree on a speed/duplex configuration to prevent link failure and link errors.

Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

One more thing,

Current settings of device are :

Lan0_0 : AUTO/AUTO

Wan0_0 : 100/FULL

Considering the cable type to be correct.

In case of Failure of device,Will it bypass the Lan & Wan ports so that we don't lose connectivity ?

Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

Provided all four interfaces agree on speed and duplex, then comms will continue. Auto works best because it will ensure both endpoints (lan switch and IPS/wan router) agree on speed and duplex. It also means auto mdi-x is enabled and takes any cable type errors out of the equation. once you use hardcoded settings, they have to match at all four interfaces and the cable types have to be right to avoid link problems.

Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

Hi Chris,

Initially when we started to get degraded error on CMC due to RX errors on Lan interface of Riverbed device at that time the settings were as below:

On Steelhead it is hard coded as 100/Full.

On IPS it was unable to take the hard coded 100/Full settings as per the admin. So they changed it to Auto and adviced us to do the same.

After changing the settings on both devices to Auto,It has negotiated to 1000/Full and the errors have stopped.

Kindly advice whether in Hardware bypass mode whether connectivity will still remain or it will be blocked?

Regards,

Sharad

Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

So when the IPS is set to 100/Full, what is the connected Steelhead interface set to? Auto or matched hardcoded 100/Full?

Re: Errors observed on the lan interface

Hi ,

For the IPS settings are kept at "Auto" and the speed has negotiated to 1000 mb/s.

For the lan interface is connected to switch of 100 mb/s capacity via the IPS.

What would be the outcome if the Steelhead is switched off, will it go in bypass mode ?

Errors observed on the lan interface

Silly question maybe, but what are the settings on the interface connected to the LAN interface?

Also, what for IPS do you have?

Errors observed on the lan interface

[ Edited ]

Hi,

This is to inform you that when the Duplex setting on Lan0_0 interface are Full, Speed : 100Mb/s, we have observed errors and collisions on Lan0_0 interface of riverbed.

When we changed the Duplex and speed to auto-auto, the errors and collisions were no more there and device is now running fine.

This Riverbed is connected to an IDP. Is there any issue with the negotiation of the Lan interface(speed/duplex) because of which we were getting these errors. We need to get the settings back to 100 Mb/s Full but we need to confirm first whether there is any issue with the lan interface.

Also would like to know if we keep the lan interface on auto(1000mb/s) and other interfaces to hard coded to 100mb/s will it effect the fail through wire settings when the device is turned off.

Regards,

SNJ
