Disk Layout Setting: Riverbed LRU

There's no performance penalty to using Riverbed LRU mode. The key thing to keep in mind is that for proper performance, "peer" Steelheads should both have the same setting (be it FIFO or LRU), which is why it didn't come turned on by default when we introduced the feature (since customers don't always perform RiOS upgrade of all devices in their network at the same time).

As for whether it outperforms FIFO, it's really workload dependent. There's plenty of workloads where the two will perform roughly similar. But for many backup/replication type workloads in particular, LRU can be a noticeable improvement.

Disk Layout Setting: Riverbed LRU

In our experrience we have found LRU to be better for our customer base. As the data store fills the end user gets a better experience. Typically with FIFO as the data store wraps the end user gets inconsistent results with the documents they regularly use, and becomes dis-illusioned with the optimisation they receive.

Disk Layout Setting: Riverbed LRU

Hi,

does anyone have good or bad experience with "Riverbed LRU" and wants to share it?
Currently I can't see disadvantages except that it might slow down search and replacement of data patterns because of more complex structure. And that it becomes more indistinct if data store is big enough. Anything else?

Thanks,

V.M.
