Hi,
We are trialling Riverbeds between two locations over a VPN. Optimisation is working really well from the branch towards the central site but we need the opposite, and the performance we're getting from central site to branch is no better than on the normal network most of the time.
Can anyone advise on the correct setup for the Riverbeds in terms of routing, in-path settings etc. ? At the central site we have a single subnet/LAN. ON this a default gateway is defined which is a floating (HSRP) IP address for two cisco routers on the LAN. They then exchange OSPF routing info with two netscreen firewalls that then connect to the branches with VPN links. The riverbed at the central site is set with a 4 port card and is in-line for both netscreens.
At the branch site the setup is simpler - we just have the Netscreen as default gateway with the riverbed in-path between it and the LAN.
My questions are :-
What is the correct configuration on the in-path IP setup when the default gateway for the network is inside the riverbed, not on the WAN interface ?
Do we need to activate simplified routing ?
Has anyone seen a situation where traffic is optimised in one direction but not the other ? Could it be anything to do with the network we have in the central site and the Riverbed's not working as they should with the default gateway for the LAN on the inside or could it be something completely different ?
We are following this up with the Riverbed partner and Riverbed but if anyone can provide some clear detail on what should be set and why it would be a real help.
Thanks
Euan
