Can Riverbed optimize Oracle traffic?

Hi Bob,

The Oracle Application is running in 11i version. They have a few other Oracle databases for engineering and other in-house applications, the Oracle db is running in 10G version. Can Riverbed work on this? tx

Can Riverbed optimize Oracle traffic?

Hi Bob,

Thank you very much for your advise. I am trying to gather more info on the Oracle applications, most sites dont use Riverbed, my sites with SAP/AS400/SQL/etc use Riverbed for optimization, we are going to implement Oracle soon, if it is proven useful, I guess we will try to deploy riverbed to other sites too.

Let me find out more info on the Oracle Apps.

Thank you very much,

Can Riverbed optimize Oracle traffic?

Hi Paul,

Is there a particular Oracle application that you are looking at optimizing? There are many different Oracle application contexts out there and performance results will vary based on app type, environment, and use-case.

Once such case is applications that use Oracle SQL*NET for the back-end database communication. Sometimes this communication takes place over the WAN or at least the bottleneck impacts the WAN performance. A good example is PLM apps that rely on Oracle. Riverbed can help when the data is buly and data streamlining and/or transport streamlining can eliminate the bulkiness and improve things at the TCP level.

If you are referring to an application suite like Oracle's E-Business suite of applications, Riverbed can potentially provide favoravle optimization and acceleration. Even within E-Business or Oracle Financials, the application can run in 1 of 3 modes. Default socket mode, HTTP, or SSL. Socket mode presents challenges for WAN acceleration devices because the treaffic between the Oracle client/server is scrambled as it is transported over a Java J-Initiator client. Riverbed's RiOS 4.1 software addresses this environment by intercepting the Oracle traffic, unscrambling it, and optimizing it. This is also discussed in last month's Ask the Experts here http://www.wdsforum.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=243

I know there are users on this forum that are getting good Oracle optimization so hopefully you will get some good replies.

Cheers,

Bob
