Too many servers, too few IT monkeys...

What were we to do? :smileysad: We couldn't hire more IT monkeys for there weren't enough banana's to go around amongst the 4 of us. With over 80 servers spread across 10 sites, the only solutions was to remove more servers, but if we did so, users will promptly kick and scream about accessing their files across the slow links thus reducing their productivity.

We scratched our collective noggins for a moment and then Riverbed came in and solved our problem!  Now, users are able to happily access their files across the WAN and we are able to eliminate servers in most of our remote sites. Two larger sites still require a server, but we were able to virtualized them onto RSP to remove their physical footprint anyways. WINNING!

Besides the benefits of consolidating our equipment to one location, we also saved moolah from server maintenance cost, OS software licenses, reduce power consumption (users can now actually eat in their kitchen without the loud server noise, yo!), reduce cooling requirements, and eliminated local backup(yayy!). Another bonus was that we were able to decommission a lot of equipments that accompanied those servers including any keyboard, mouse, monitors, tape backup drives, and extra UPS.

Below is a before and after snapshot of one of the offices we consolidated:

And here's a shot from our CMC showing how much data reduction and peak throughput we've gotten the last day! Some impressive stuff...

Now we IT Monkeys have more time to watch youtu... errr... be more productive! :smileywink:
