Had to brag on Riverbed AGAIN. We're doing a POC of a BMC helpdesk and patch management solution (we use Altiris now and RB works awesome with it) and the team was concerned about it optimizing if we went with a new vendor. The guy from BMC had never heard of RB or WAN optimization and I said, it should work fine but let's just try it out. He was amazed that I could test it so easily ad hoc on a 30 minute call and he was equally awestruck by the results. I can't tell you the guys name but someone at Riverbed should reach out to them because these kind of applications show a really big bang on network utilization with your product. We used to get hammered with AV updates and OS updates and now we're running smooth. Unfortunately, Altiris runs over 80 so I can't isolate just how much of a benefit it is on that currently, but to give you an idea last month alone we compressed 2.7TB of Symantec AV updates down to 380GB and without a doubt the Altiris stats would be even more impressive.
