I have a special treat for you guys. If you are like me I HATE having to go into SH to get to my VM's. Having to click a link to get to a VM is too much work for me.
Here is the command to build a link from a desktop shortcut.
In the Target line of your shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\VMware Remote Console Plug-in\vmware-vmrc.exe" -h x.x.x.x:8333 -M "64"
replace the x's with the IP address of the primary port on your SH, and BINGO, double click to console bliss.

Ive seen a similar issue. try using another browser to get around the issue.
Mine seem to relate to the protected mode setting and IE8.

I was loading up a package onto a newly deployed Steelhead today, running RiOS 5.5.7d (first one at this RiOS in my environment) and noticed something funny.
The Package loaded into it's slot just fine, and enabled, but after being enabled the "Launch VM Console" link was not displayed. As I don't automate my systems initial run, I utilize the console to do things such as assign an IP address and join the server to the domain.
Please let me know if any of you have seen this, and if so, what workaround did you use?
Thank you!
