OK, making progress.  I created a user on the Riverbed with RSP access.  I can logon to the VMWare console however when it appears about to connect I then get the error: "The server could not complete a request (HTTP 0)".  We shouldn't have a firewall between me and the Riverbed...any ideas?

Well, I got it to power on by clicking Restart on the Slot Operations part of the RSP Slots.  Now it's on.  Now when I go to VM Settings, and click Launch VM Console, the console launches, I get the logon prompt, I logon, and then see "connecting" on the logon window for a couple minutes.  Then I get "Server was unable to process your login request.  Please check with your server administrator."

The slot is enabled, but the VM is powered off.  When I try to power it on in the VM console I get access denied as an error.  I'm not finding any relevant KB or documentation that clarifies what's going on.

You can't perform any management functions from the VMware Console, just monitor and access the console of the VM.  You will want to start the VM by enabling the slot that the VM is installed in.

Well, I see there are capability based accounts and roles based accounts.  I set up a roles based account and gave it Read/Write to the RSP services, but still get the same Access Denied error when I try to start the VM in the VM console.

Thanks.  Let me look at the user permissions again for more specifics.  You're answers are what I'm looking for.  I'm using IE, so I know that part should be fine.

What kind of access are you trying to add?  You need to use Steelhead accounts to access RSP (you can use TACACS accounts as well).  If you are just trying to create an account that has RSP access, then you can do so via Configure › Security › User Permissions.  RSP will need to be restarted for that account to take effect.

If you are bringing up the VMware Remote Console, it is only used for console access.  You can not make any VM changes through this.  Everything must be done through RSP.

Also, for the remote console, Firefox doesn't work after version 3.5, Chrome tends to be hit or miss, so IE is your best bet.  You will probably also want to put the Steelhead management IP in the trusted sites list for IE.

I'm not positive that I answered the question you had so tried to hit the highlights with RSP and VM access.

I am using our Riverbed admin account to login to a Riverbed to use the RSP slots.  A VM is showing enabled, but when I go to the VMSettings tab, login as admin, then start the VM I get  an "Access Denied" message.  If I login to VMWare using the web console to view permissions I see the localvixuser and a group called rsp_users, but nowhere that the admin account has access to this VM.  I can't add a user to the VM either.  The Commands list is empty. I'm not seeing anything in any documentation where I can set up permissions for this VM except via the Commands list, but I don't appear to have access to it, even when using the admin account for the appliance itself.
