Hi Thomas,
That is correct.

Hi Derek,
my failure. It seems riverbed saves the .bkup file locally and deletes them after the .bkup file is transfered to the second server system. Right?
I've posted my configuration as attachment.
Thank you for your support

Hi Thomas,
Since you need to know the file name of the backup in order to delete it, you can not automate this process from the CLI or GUI. That is why I suggested having a remote backup location so the RSP partition does not get filled up. This also gives you the benefit of having a backup available should the Steelhead fail.

Hi Derek,
thank you for your information.
The backup works. But my problem is the weekly schedule. If the second backup task starts (after one week), the riverbed have not enogh space for a second backup file. And I do not know, how I am able to delete the old backup automatically before.
I need a automatism to delete the old backup file before the new backup starts.
Geetings,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
You have to specify the filename when doing a "rsp backup delete" from the CLI.
While doing the backup would allow you to restore the VM if something happened to it, it does not address if something happens to the Steelhead itself. What I would suggest is do your slot backup to a remote server via FTP or SCP. This way, the backup is available if the Steelhead fails and you (hopefully) do not have any disk space problems since the RSP partition is limited.
From the CLI, the command would look something like this:
rsp slot 1 backup create remote scp://admin:password@10.10.10.10/path/
1 is the slot of the VM you wish to backup.
Use scp or ftp depending on the remote server you have
admin:password is the login info for that remote server
10.10.10.10 is the IP of the server
You can also do the backup via the GUI, just use scp:// or ftp:// for the remote URL

Hello together,
I have problems to configure a weekly backup for our RSPs.
The first backup is succsessful, but for a second backup we have not enough disk space.
Is there a possibility to configure an automatic deletion of the last .bkup file befor the next scheduled RSP backup job starts?
Thank you for your help and
many greetings,
Thomas R.
