What Stuart meant by "internet" was the direction where the most networks exist. This is usually the WAN. You then define static routes for the (usually) fewer subnets on the LAN side.

Thanks for your response. These're not Internet faced IC's. On the LAN side there's the Data Center and on the WAN side a couple of WAN routers connecting to the MPLS. We figured since most (if not all) of the traffic will be initiated by the clients and coming in to the WAN side of the IC, we should point its DFG to the LAN int. Does this make sense?

You should always point the default route to a reliable source of routing for traffic routes not easily defined; usually Internet traffic.



In most cases you will also need static routes for LAN/WAN traffic not matching the default route.
