Forum Features

[ Edited ]

Riverbed’s discussion forums provide some key features that will hopefully enhance your experience that you have while visiting the site and interacting with users and the content matter.  Below are some highlights of the features:

Kudos

Kudos are a way for you to give approval to content that you think is helpful, well formed, insightful, or otherwise generally valuable in the community. When you give kudos to a message, you are not only offering a thumbs up for good content, but also a pat on the back to the author.  In addition to getting a pat on the back from your fellow community peers, users with a high number of kudos are awarded with higher ranks and have the potential to win fabulous prizes given at the conclusion of monthly contests.  Check the News, Announcements, and Events for information about contests.

Giving Kudos

Simply click the Kudos! button to give a kudo to the message and its author.

Kudos Leader Board

The kudos leader board in Riverbed’s community home page provides a virtual FAQ where you can see the messages with the most kudos, which are often the most commonly asked questions.  There are two kudos leader boards.  The first is the Top Kudod Posts and the other is the Top Kudod Authors.

Accepted Solutions

The accepted solutions feature helps you identify content that solves problems and makes interesting material more prominent and easy to access.

Community members who post questions or moderators can designate one of the replies as an accepted solution.  Once a solution is accepted, the original message is marked as solved and the reply is marked as a solution. An icon on the question takes users directly to the solution.

If authors or moderators see an even better solution, they can revoke the first choice and designate another message as the solution. And users who post the answers to their own questions can mark those answers as accepted.

Ranks

User participation in the community is awarded by giving users a particular rank.  The ranking system uses a combination of forum posts, kudos, and accepted solutions.  Below is a summary of the ranking system.

This rank is for users that read posts, but have not yet submitted a post of their own.  All new users start out as a casual observer.

This rank is for users that have placed their toe in the water by submitting their first post.
