Hi,
I'm a long time pioneer in Wan optimisation since 1998 and a strong evangelist of Riverbed as a leader in this domain since end 2004.
One important element that i still miss in the Riverbed reporting capabilities is a dashboard that is useable to measure applications performance. The reason to have this is to have objective information to create application performace SLA on.
Lately Wan Optimisation/Acceleration becomes more and more available as a managed service, customers demand not only SLA's on availability but also on performance levels of critical applications. For IPTel there is a metric available called MOS ( Mean Opinion Score), for data applications there was nothing comparable to that available. It looks like more and more APM ( Application Performance Management) vendors are adapting and supporting an upcomming standard called APDEX ( APplication inDEX) (www.apdex.org), (f.e. Juniper, OPNET, Ipanema, NETQoS, ...). It would help Riverbed to penetrate in this MSP market if they would be able to export basic ( or more advanced) measurement data in a format that is APDEX conform or even where possible in apdex format. Being actively involved in the further development of this APDEX metrix would not hurt either. Last december there was an APDEX forum in Las Vegas and Riverbed was invisible.
I know Riverbed has OPNET as their alliance partner and OPNET is indeed member of the APDEX forum, but then you need to use the RSP feature for information that probably can be extracted out of the RVBD engine as well quite easily and it significantly increases the cost of the solutions.
So, if anyone at Riverbed or other member forums could give his feedback to this I would very much appreciate this.
If Riverbed/anybody has guidelines on how to export data to external collectors to create APDEX metrics on other systems it would be great to.
Many thanks.
Kind Regards.
