Generally speaking secure peering doesn't change the user experience much at all. Secure peering does increase the CPU load on an appliance, though, so keep an eye on that if you're going to enable it for all traffic.
We do have many customers using this feature in edutalent production environments. It is intended to replace the IPSEC security in earlier software versions with a more easily configured, maintainable and stable solution.
